This TI survey covered 107 countries, including Australia. While the percentage of Australian respondents saying they had paid bribes was not significant, a majority still considered that corruption in public sector agencies was increasing. Click here for the Australian results.
This free TI Australia event will be held in Sydney. Hear Australia’s Attorney-General, Mark Dreyfus, Shadow Attorney-General, George Brandis, and Greens Leader, Christine Milne, spell out their party’s approaches to fighting corruption and promoting integrity in Australia.
A long-term objective of TI Australia has been achieved with the passage of the long overdue Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013 by the Gillard Government. A TIA media release called on all members of Federal Parliament to support the Bill. On Wed 26 June 2013 a media release by TIA Director, Dr A J Brown, Griffith University, said, ‘Today’s passage of the Public Interest Disclosure Act, Australia’s first national whistleblower protection law, is the biggest single reform to the federal public integrity system in 25 years’. Attorney-General for Australia, Mark Dreyfus, also commented.
ACLEI has released an interim report on its investigations into allegations of corrupt conduct by Australian customs officers.
